Coach ED, I agree in what you are saying to Mr. Harshman except for a couple of things. Yes it may be hard for the refs with so much going on, but that's why they are there in the first place. I definately do not agree with the comment about teaching your kid not to let the ref decide the match. I coach my son's team and we definately explain to them the rules on what a ref might or might not call. But the refs need to make a conscince effort to do well on every match they call not just some of them. And not only have confidence to make a call, but the confidence and courtesy to listen to a coach when he does have an issue. I am a very mild manner coach, and when I stepped to the table to question a call the ref looked at me like I had kicked his dog or something. Is that fair? I know there are some coaches out there that make things not only hard on the refs but thier own kids by how they act, but as a ref you are to be impartial and fair for every match. We teach our kids that they are not just representing themselves but the club they are affiliated with and to respect the themselves and this great sport. Refs most definately must be held to the same, and for a ref to be lazy and not move to make the correct call is not only wrong. It should not be tolirated. In closing I totally agree with you on coaches getting involved on who's going to ref at state. As a coach if you don't want to take the time to pick'em, then don't complain.
