You're exactly right.

And obviously you don't know much about recruiting. High school coaches have to help too, or the people don't get the right looks. ***.

Yeah cgg160, he's right. Just because they were D-1 material doesn't mean that they were getting scouted. You're whiny and annoying. Go crawl in a hole.

My thoughts:

103,112, 215, 275 are weaker than 125-189. Typically the toughest weight are near the middle; ie 145 and 152. This is simply due to the quantity of wrestlers being of average size.

It is tough to win state at any weight level, however 215 6a (and 5a, 4a, 321a) practically "guarantees" a medal to any individual with a winning record.

Bigger schools will almost always win team sports due to sheer numbers.

I believe smaller schools have more individual sport heros because they don't have anybody else to play with.

Its hard to play a game of bball when your nearest neighbor is 10 miles down the road.....there's nothing left to do but wrestle the goats, pigs, chickens, cows, etc.

Haha no they're not. And, I think that 5a and 4a and 321a were T0NS easier to medal in this year. I mean, I teched the 4th place guy in 321a, teched him. That's not saying much for that class. I beat the 5a state champ by 6, not saying much about that class either. I beat the 4a champ by 10, not saying much for that class. I know that the 1st and 3rd place guys beat a lot of these guys too. 6a 215 was the hardest 215 in the state by far.

Jhris:

When I was a senior, I pinned a 6a kid that took 4th at state in the first period, and then beat him 16-2 a day later.(I think he wrestled at 171 but maybe it was 189) The following year he took second at 215.

Oh yea, i got pinned in the 4a state finals the same year. Looks like we will both be the best of the losers for eternity.

There are people from 4, 321a who don't qualify for state that have smoked state medalers from higher divisions......then again this isn't very often....maybe like 6-10 occasions per season.

Anyhow, 215 is a weaker class. 103 is fun to watch but all the kids are freshmen. The freshmen typically can't be successful in the upper weights.

215 has only been weak for 2 years. Before that there were 3, count them 3, All-Americans in 2002. The most at any weight for Kansas. 215 is usually not a weak weight so you can't say it's weak. Also, yes, some may qualify, but I know that some people who placed 3rd or 4th this year in 6a would have won 4a. Just because other weights are tough in other classes doesn't mean that 215 is automatically hard. 321a had one good 215 pounder, 4a had no one, 5a had one that was alright, and 6a had about 2. It wasn't a tough class, and as you will see, each class had only a few dominating people. But I know that 6a 215 this year was the hardest to place in out of all classes.

Just a thought:

I would bet that if you combined 152lb to 215lb state placers in a big SUPER GRAND STATE bracket, that the majority of 215lb wrestlers would not place.

I would also put a friendly wager that the majority of 215lbers can not beat all the guys in lesser weights (even on thier own team). I wonder how routine it is for 145-189lbers to be the best wrestler on their team..??

You are right. There were a few great 215lb wrestlers a few years ago. There are 24 studs in the weight division every year. I am just stating that there is not a vast amount of tough competition in 215lb.

A good example was provided by a wrestler from Paola this year. I don't recall his name, but I know he placed 2nd this year in 5a-215lb. The year before, he was beat out at 5a-160lb. We should ask the Paola guy what he thinks about it.

You don't think that in a year he learned a lot? Or got bigger? Or developed technique? I would also love to be the first person to laugh at your challege of 215 pounders with 152 pounders. Justin Johnson was the 152 pounder on my team. He is undoubtably one of the best 152's in the state. I also know that I would pin him in the first period. He would agree because I'm freaking huge compared to him. If you're going to make a comparison, at least do it at a reasonable weight. I don't agree with it, though. We had a good 160 pounder in Ryan Johnson, also one of the state's most elite 60 pounders. I would pin him too, and probably in the 1st. The size alone is completely off, Billy. Seriously, maybe technique-wise they're better, but you can't make a comparison and say they would beat us. That's just stupid.

they have both the technique, strength, and conditioning to wear out a 215lb.

I'm not good, by any means, but I know that the last time I wrestled Lee Larson, our 89 pounder, I beat the crap out of him. Lee's competition this year included NUMEROUS top 4 placers. Lee also could have, and should have beaten Ehret, the 6a champ at 189, in the semis. Lee has his share of bad matches, but I know that he gave Lucas Scott a run for his money, as well as Jason Butler, Ehret, Marrs, Pietryzk, and other state placers. Good enough for you Jason?

Just because YOU could beat the guys in YOUR room doesn't prove my theory wrong. I'm putting my money that this is true for the majority of teams, not just Manhattan.

Another boost for 215. Ryan Sponsel from Bishop Carrol wrestled the number 4 ranked 215'er in the nation, or so he says, at a tournament in Oklahoma. I'm not sure if that's true or not, but his coaches said so as well. Well, Ryan lost by the score of 8-4 to him. I wrestled Ryan a few weeks later, and dominated him with a 9-3 victory, the 3rd victory in 3 matches with him. That's at least two good people, and I know everyone thinks Horinek is the best in the world, so there's another.

You asked me, and I told you, and I'm right, and you're wrong. I'll agree that 215 isn't extremely hard, but there are worse weights. 215 was probably in the top 3 weakest weights in fact, but it has it's share of good wrestlers, it's not all trash, like 103.
