Let me begin this post by admitting that being from Oakley I am biased toward the NWKL and Oakley inparticular. That being said, I would like to comment on the situation at 125 using the facts as I know them (not attempting to knock any other wrestlers). Levi Younkin from Oakley was second at state as a freshman, and the state champion last year (defeating Lloyd in the finals). Yes he had a subpar weekend at the Hays tournament losing to Ortiz, and Deeds from Goodland (who he has defeated numerous times). He has since gone on to win the NWKL tournament (including Lloyd and Baker),defeated Lloyd head to head last year and this year as well as Baker. Baker needs no intro. as the son of Coach Baker and the defending state champion at another weight. Lloyd comes from a great wrestling tradition in SF and a wrestling family. He finished second in state to Younkin last year. Weatherbee was second at state to Baker last year and won the Hays tournament which included Lloyd and Baker..his one loss is also to Ortiz. Monnington has never placed at state. I know he beat Geske, but Geske has lost other matches also. We (Junction) saw him at Basehor and he finished 5th. Just not enouth credentials to crack the top 4. Based on toughness of schedule, head to head match-ups, and previous state finishes, I will predict the following: 1)Younkin-Oakley 2)Baker-Hoxie 3)Weatherbee-TMP 4)Lloyd-St. Francis 5)Monnington-Herington Of course, the way the state bracket is set up can greatly effect this and this is by no means set in stone, that's why we wrestle'em. All I do know for sure is that it's going to be a barn burner and I wish I could be there to see it! Best of luck to all the 125'ers. John Steiger-Junction City High School

I'd like to see Geske and Monnington rematch. It'd be tight if they both got to wrestle each other again in the East-West Classic, because I'm betting that Geske getting the rust out throughout the season will make it an even better match than the two displayed before.

I dont know what you would consider tall i cant remember how tall baker is i would say 5'8" or 5'9" or so. I know the monnington kid at 125 is probally 5'9" 5'10" ive noticed that some kids do have problems with the taller lanky kids could cause troubles for the other kids in the bracket for these two being fairly tall kids for 125. specially if they are long and fairly strong could cause problems for the shorter guys. I know when monnington wrestled Geske who is short and stout (VERY STOUT) he had problems getting into monningtons body cause he was so much longer then he was. Who knows may help these two kids may not i guess we will find out at hays if all these kids make it.

I would have to agree with Yellowjacket, that Weatherbee has had some trouble with the taller guys...if you look at their height
Monnington 5'10" Baker 5'8" Younkin 5'7" Lloyd 5'8" Weatherbee 5'4" or 5'5"
ha...hes gonna have it tough with that height advantage, but i think his strength will help him out with this..from what i see he is very strong and can power is way out of moves, which he did against Lloyd at Praire Senior, and i think his quickness is gonna help him alot too....so Hays will tell us all what will happen and who does best under that pressure, im sure its quite abit when you get that whole gym filled with screaming fans!!

Pug-Sorry about that, I was in a hurry. I meant to say Younkin was at Hays rather than Baker.

If getting beat by 2 points is getting manhandled, then tait killed ortiz and destroyed him another time, that would also include Lloyd? you need a better choice of words man! I believer whichever one wants it the most they will win it. They are all young and it will be fun to watch!

Yes all of those kids are young except Kroger from ellis which is a senior and Monnington of Herington who is also a Senior. Look for those two to step it up a notch.
