Looking through the weight loss thread made me think about some of the great stories wrestlers use when they don't make weight.
The two classics that come to mind are: 1) The kid that hit a five pound growth spurt over the weekend and 2) The "All I had was one ice cube but I gained three pounds."
Please share the other great lines you've heard.
Oh yeah, the "I didn't think water weighed anything because it doesn't have any calories" is sweeeeeeet!

Years ago we had a kid who left the night before a meet a pound over and coach told him to eat and drink real "light" and he could run whatever he didn't sleep off in the morning. He came in 4 1/2 pounds over the next morning. When asked what he ate and drank. He told coach he only had a one bag of marshmellows and some skim milk. He said he ate the "lightest" things he could find.
I drank several light beers one night and I didn't lose anything either.

During Coach Jilka high school career, we had a guy that was supposed to wrestle coach Jilka at a dual the next day. He left exactly on weight, and was told to eat light and and he would have no worries. When he came in the next morning he was 2.5 over and was beside himself (as Goddard was supposed to be a pretty heated rival, but as a freshman I wasn't to aware of this)that he might cost the team the meet because we would have to forfeit the weight. His just couldn't understand why eating a medium pan pizza from Pizza Hut and a SMALL coke had put him over the edge. By the way folks, wouldn't have mattered if he would have made weight, Jilka would have smoked him.

I don't know about that mawcoach, were Jilka's knees as weak back then as they are now?

Once I was two pounds under leaving practice, but that night I ate a delicious 8th grader. Man, you should have seen the look on coach's face. He was pissed.
Congrats, Aquinas! Great job, Hat Town! Salyer Rules!

Your knees would be weak too, if they had to carry around that gigantic booty all day. Dingbat-If you would have only ate a 7th grader you'd have made weight.

In Jr. High, this kid left like one pound under and the coach told him to eat lightly. He came in the next day and was 5 pounds over! When asked what he had, he said he only had "some of my mom's soup."
We joked for years about that soup.

Gentlemen ...... are you implying that some of these young athletes were being less than candid or exercised poor judgement regarding their pre-match consumption?

Sportsfan02,I wouldn't think his knees were that weak. I don't think he was quite as big as he is now. Our guy only won one match his entire high school career. But, the match he won qualified him for state his senior year in 5a. I'd like to think that his win is testimonial to dedication and perseverance. It might have just been the gods smiling on him that day though.

I had a wrestler about eight years ago come back after Christmas break 26lbs over.....so I asked the question...."What did you eat?". His story started out like this...."2 bags of Double Stuffed Oreos......." and it gradually became more and more. So then I was like ok I will ask his mom....she said "Nothing". To be honest it was the craziest thing I had ever heard. I will never ask that question again...ever. Man, his face was swollen up it was gross. Needless to say he bumped up. Later

We had two twins that went to our school and after every weekend they'd come in at least fifteen pounds over. They were wrestling 119 and 125 their senior years, so it was pretty brutal on them.

I remember those times.... My fatty friend, Luke Raynor, came in like 22lbs over at heavyweight after Christmas break, I was 17lbs over and Sultani was at least 15 over too. We were all fat, but Lukey was just nasty hippo fat by then though.

Back in my Atwood High School wrestling days we had a kid who was right on the night before and 1 pound over the next morning. His reply to Coach Woody as to "what did you eat last night?" was "nothing, all I had was a vanilla shake, it wasn't even chocolate!" I'm not kidding on this one.

In college we were once going to a preseason trny. We had this kid with us, that used to wrestle for Osowatime. Well after we worked out he was right on wieght. We went home and saw him just suck on an cup of ice that wasn't very full. Time we got to the Mo. Valley trny. he was 2 lbs over after taking a leak. After that we always teasted him that he gets fat in his sleep and would always be fat. He looked like he wanted to cry.....**** that was a funny time Derek Wendt!
