Sheldon High School in Iowa (proud hometown of Tom and Terry Brands) has one of my all-time favorites.
They are the Sheldon Orabs. No, not Arabs; Orabs. My college roommate was from Sheldon and I asked him what exactly an "Orab" was. Proudly sporting his black and orange Sheldon High sweatshirt he replied, "Well, look at my shirt."
I didn't get it.
"Look at my shirt."
Still didn't get it.
Pointing the orange lettering he said "Ora-.."
Then to the black material, "...b!"
ORange And Black.
Now THAT is creative!!!!
Special mention goes to Everly High School (before they merged with another school and became Clay Central) who was known as the Cattlefeeders. In the old days, girls' teams were named by adding the suffix "-ettes" to the end of the boys' mascot name. So Everly's 1966 girls' state basketball champs were called the Cattlefeederettes. Gotta love it!
