i was wrong about carter for saying he wouldnt do anything in basehor linwood, he took third but his semi's match with shroder was awsome. Both wrestlers wresled great. it was probably one of the most contraversial matches also with the refs meeting and changing their decisions 3 or 4 times throughout the match. of course shroder won in overtime. that to was a descussed call because carter was origionally awarded 2 but the refs descussed it and decided grater had control before carter did. it was a great match and and interesting one too. thanx for the great match guys!!!!!!!!

I hate to bust Little Buster's bubble about Ryan Sonderegger but he did not win his semi final. he lost to Wiscomb from SFT 3-1. You might be confused with the quarter final where he had to scramble to come back and get the win in overtime. I feel the best match was the Wiscomb and Malloy match

What match was it that had an Abilene vs. Goodland guy in the finals? The announcers on the net went crazy saying a point was awarded and then taken away when the Coach Bahe debated with the ref. Then they said that the Abilene coaches needed classes in negotiation to get a point...what was that all about?

2 other matches that i thought were really good, and surprised that no 1 has commented on were Dylon Jenne(abilene) vs. Judd Schroeder (andale), and the Arron Ellison (columbous) vs. Colby Riffle (abilene). Both went into OT, Arron was ranked a head of riffel, and jenne isnt ranked. both very good matches!!

I heard that the officiating in the Malloy Wiscombe match was questionable (although this was from a Shawnee Heights cheerleader so I don't know how reliable the source was). Anybody who was at the tournament and could fill me in to what happened?

This thread is best match of the day at Bobcat, but maybe the worse call of the day goes to this discussion's own "Dan the Man" who I believe is a ref. Jesse Hardy, LFS, was riding in a double overtime match with a Glenwood kid. With a second left in the tie breaker and Hardy hanging on with a very secure front head lock, this ref gave Hardy's opponent an escape! The savvy Bobcat crowd booed and kept booing for a couple of minutes to protest what they knew was a call that chose the wrong winner. I'm sure that ref made a bunch of good calls, but it's a bad one that really stand out.

I encourage all of you to get a rule book and read it. There are rules and then there are interpitation of these rules. Many of them are different than one might think. All the refs there are at the rules meetings and many of these situations are gone over. I know I'm usually wrong when I question a refs judgement-decision. They are very professional. Not everyone can keep their composure in the heat of a battle. No, I don't agree with every call but thats part of wrestling. I learn something everytime I go to a rules meeting. Its irritating when some fans think they know the rule but really don't know. There are some verrry fine differences between scoring and maybe not scoring. Or Stalling ect.... Every ref at the bobcat worked the state tournament. I think they know the interpitation of the rules. Happy wrestling, kirk

Wiscombe, you're not sucking up to the refs are you? I could see why you'd want to do that. Good refs don't give escapes on front head locks. Show me where you've seen that and prove me wrong. It doesn't happen. The refs are pretty good and they can take a little criticism when they blow a call and it was good to see the fans booing and defending the integrity of their sport. Congrats to Turner for beating so many great teams and putting Kansas back on top of Iowa and thank you Basehor-Linwood HS!

Actually, Kirk used to be an official and a pretty good I might add. Kirk has been around the sport for over twenty years and he is pretty knowledgeable about rules and applications of rules. None of us agree with every call, but if you don’t like the officiating get certified and make it better. I’m sure you will be surprised at the amount of mistakes you make even as a veteran official. Officials sometimes admit to being wrong and I look at this way. When I become a perfect (mistake free) coach then I expect them to be perfect as officials. Now, don’t think I will let up on these guys when I feel their wrong, but I also try and keep it in perspective that sometimes I don’t have the same vantage point that they have. Remember were all human and these guys are not out there just to screw kids over. They are there because they love the sport more than most people and they are just trying to promote it as officials. And yes, a front headlock could be considered a neutral position depending on the situation. But don’t listened to me I’ve only been reading the rule book for about 25 years now. Believe me it is a must read! As for Kirk being a suck up. You don’t Kirk do you?

The Wiscombe Malloy call was going to be contriversial no matter. It was called but if it was not called it would have been just has contriversial. However, the ref Gut referred to was involved in at least 8 contriversial calls. His interpetation of control and lost control was completly different than all the other refs and most refs. Take downs given with no control and escapes when control appears to be clear. I agree that it is easy to critisize the refs but at the same time like wrestlers, if they are doing something incorrect they need to know to correct it. Overall the refs were good. But you should not have 5 refs interpeting one way and one the other.
