I wonder if there will there be any Kansas refs working at the NCAA DI tournament in St. Louis? There were two from Missouri last year. I'm guessing not. Since KS refs 1)let top man grab a wrist and ride the hips for two minutes at a time without trying to score and often call the bottom guy for stalling in this situation 2) don't know that a front headlock from top position is not loss of control 3) Don't know to call the quick stalemate in overtime...Do they have clinics for refs? If so, I'd like to propose we take up a collection for these guys so they can help bring KS wrestling out of the 1950s.

Only official I know that refs at the college level in eastern ks is Mark Anderson. I am sure there are others in the state but I know Mark does work at the college level

I've seen Anderson ref, he's a first rate freestyle/greco official and does a lot of stuff outside of our great state which is why he's not like the vast majority of KS refs.

I think anyone who refs OSU duals has to be taking money under the table from the OSU coaches. They are the biggest homers of all time. I've never seen a call at home go against OSU.

He doesn't need the money because he's the mayor of Ark City? Makes sense to me.

Gutwrench1, What is your real name and what is your wrestling background? You have me at a disadvantage. In another post you criticized a call I made, I was wondering who you are because you made it sound like you know me. I will admit I am not the end all be all of wrestling officials. I do strive to be the best official I can be. That is why I travelled all over the U. S. working as many Greco-Roman/Freestyle matches I could. I did this all on my own paying my own way for almost 15 years. During my travels I tried to learn from every official I worked with and tried to learn something everytime I stepped on the mat. Since you seem to have a lot of ways to improve wrestling officiating in our great state why don't you put on an officials clinic. The KWOA has one in November and Craig Ewert and Carl Owczarzak put one on in November also in the Overland Park Area. Contact these guys and see if we can all learn from your vast knowledge. How long have you been an official? Are you a registered official here in Kansas? Have you been an official anywhere else? Are you wanting to be an official here in Kansas? I tell you what Gutwrench1 if you give me your name and other personal info like address and phone number I will pay for your registration dues to the KSHSAA for you to be a referee this year. I am sure there are a bunch of officials besides myself who would love to be taught by someone as knowledgable as you on how to become better officials. I became an official because I loved this sport and wanted to give something back. I also want to be the best official I can be, but I know I do make mistakes. I try to learn from them so I can improve as an official. I learned at a young age anyone can point out what needs to be fixed, it takes someone special to try and fix the problem to make things better. So if you do not like how wrestling is being officiated here in Kansas become a referee. By the way the comment you made to ACBulldog about showing us a good KS Referee, I feel you owe an apology to Eldon Zimblemon. That man did more for Kansas referees than you will ever know. He has forgot more about wrestling than what you will ever learn. I am anxiously waiting your reply

As a young wrestler I watched Mark anderson wrestle.....matter of fact I idealed him. but have to admit he couldn't win it all....think he didn't have his mind on wrestling (he had a girl friend). But nsince he grew up and had a family...he devoted his life to wrestling. Mark, great call ,wrestling was a good way to live for you....wish everyone thinks about wrestling like you do....

Big Mark is a fantastic ref. I have wrestled quite a few matches with him as ref, along with watching many matches where he is the official. He does a great job. Also, he has a positive effect on many wrestlers, such as myself. He is a joy to be around, and has a large wrestling backround. He is a great guy.

I saw Jim ref in the 2001 DII Nationals in Greeley. I remember he called a pin in 18 seconds of the final. It was awesome! He doesn't like a lot of stalling either!

Dan the Man puts the hammer down on gutwrentch. As a fellow official in our great state, I too would like to put some money in on getting Mr. Gutwrench registered as an official, and also to the KWOA meetings. I'm sure everyone there including myself would be pleased to sit there and listen to this unknown, unnamed, man talking trash about them. Apprently in his eyes there is only one respectable referee in this entire state. I find that funny because I know plenty of officials who call matches exactly like Mark Anderson does, but I guess since they don't have the name they aren't important?
Gut, this IS Kansas, prehaps our style of wreslting isn't to your liking, the best suggestion I have to you is move out of the state and find somewhere else, because its going to be like this for a long time. I've seen countless high school officials call stalling 35 seconds into match because that was what was happening. Just because officials don't require a top wrestler to turn a kid in 7 seconds or let him go in Kansas, doesn't mean they are bad officials or that Kansas wrestling as a whole is bad.
So far you've managed to insult the coaches, the tournament directors, KSHSAA, about 92% of all the wrestlers in Kansas, and now about 150 officials on our state. On second though Dan the man, maybe he shouldn't reveal his name, I'm quite sure at this point if he did, he'd lose any credibility as a person should he decide to show his face at a tournament. Bottom line, if you don't like it LEAVE.

I have a question. Is a college ref supposed to call stalling on the top man? They have fricken riding time in college. You are rewarded for "1)let top man grab a wrist and ride the hips for two minutes at a time" isn't that the point of riding time?
okay so that was two questions.
