I am really disappointed that more of the regional tournaments are not putting their tournament online this year. The KSHSAA has all of the regional sites using the same software. In this program it has the capability of making webpage’s in a matter of minutes for the tournament. Holton High School has given each school server space to download there regional tournament to our web server so that it can be published onto the web so that everyone could follow all 16 regional site if the wish to. Sometimes there have been some computer problems that have prevented this from happening. But the schools that have had the problems have taken it upon them selves to fix them and to get the tournaments online. All of the regional tournaments that I have received information on will be posted on the KWCA page http://www.holton.k12.ks.us/tech/kwca Shawnee Heights has set up a link on the KWCA for their regional tournament. At this time it says the Centennial League tournament. We were running a test to make sure that the site will work. This is the first 5A school that I know of that has ever put the regional information online that I know of. Great job Shawnee Heights. I would encourage each of you this weekend to thank all regional tournament directors that have their tournament online. For the tournament that are not online, talk to your coach and the tournament director and encourage them to take the next step. I think all wrestling fans would like to see all 16 regional tournaments listed online.

I couldn't agree more! This is just another example why regionals in ANY sport should not be chosen strictly by geographic location (ie rotation) basis. Nothing against the host communities, but there are better and more convenient places for regionals to be held. I would ask that all coaches get on Rick Bowden about ending this policy of rotating sites to different regions of the state. If the better facilities are not applying for a regional (and in many cases they aren't) then lets fix it, ie find a way to put more money in the hosts pocket. The host with the best facilities, amenities, and performance should be chosen every year, even if that means going to the same site year after year.

I will say I'm proud that although we don't have a hotel in Chapman, we do have the regionals covered online. I thought Russell was going to also.

I tried to call Russell and express my frustration concerning no online coverage of the regional there but the only telephone in town was being used by someone else so I couldn't get through. I think as soon as they discover the internal combustion motor they will be able to drive to some civilized location and arrange for telephones and cybernetic coverage.

I would like to commend those schools who are hosting regionals this weekend. It takes a lot of work and coordination to host a regional wrestling tournament. I would also like to thank those who are putting their regionals on-line and Holton and specifically Mr. Phillips for assiting in the online posting process. However, I do not think it is necessary or even expected to put the regionals online, we should be thankful for those who are, but do not berate those who are not. Many people do not have the technological expertise to feel comfortable to do that, regardless of how easy the process is. It is possibly this attitude of entitlement that causes many possible sites and administrators to not apply for the chance to host a regional. The fact that hosting a good tournament is not enough for many, that the state community must be satisfied with their need for instant results and can't wait to read the results in the paper on Sunday.
Good luck this weekend to all and thanks for all those who are hosting the regionals.

I disagree coachtwink. In the interest of expanding our sport and helping those that can't make it to these events keep in touch I think we NEED to have these tournaments online. Do you really think I want to find out how my home team did two days after the event? It doesn't really take all that much technical expertise to do this, especially since every regional site in the state is using the exact same software as bob pointed out. Its time for some of these sites to get on the ball.

It doesn't surprise me that Russell doesn't have it online. They hosted the 4A state tourney in the mid 80s and it was nothing to brag about. Did NOT have the "biggest tourney of the year" feel.

Having the online regional tourney is GREAT. Being from Clay Center and living in florida, I have great pride in the wrestling community. I spent a friday night at home so i could be by the computer and get the updates from regionals. Chapman did an awesome job with their site. Thank you for putting it on.

The way we have the gym setup as of right now does not allow for it be online, as the all the bracketing and score entry is on our stage where this is no internet connection present. Thus I am trying to provide updates as time allows, I'm working with the coach to get brackets so I can post results and round match ups on here. I apologize for the inconvience. My number is listed if anyone would like updates I can relay information asap. Thanks, Alex

I really don't think the regional directors are worried about doing anything but putting on a great tournament for the participants. If they have the technological capability, expertise, and additional man power to get it done- than great.

I AGREE WITH THE IDEA OF PUTTING THEM ON LINE I LIVE IN WISCONSIN AND ITS THE ONLY WAY TO KEEP UP WITH ALL THE WHOS WHO IN THE SPORT ITS GROWING FROM WHAT IT WAS JUST A FEW SHORT YEARS AGO BUT THOSE OF US OUT HERE WANT MORE INFO AND WE WANT IT NOW. IF I CAN GET UPDATES FROM A OLD FAT GUY IN THE GYM ON A CELL PHONE. THEN THE SCHOOLS SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT THE RESULTS ONLINE AND SAVE MY PHONE BILL.

Coachtwink,
I don't know if you knew this, but I officiate every weekend, and thus I had a tournament this week so I couldn't go to regionals, im at Liberty Nationals next week so I can't go to state. But it is sure nice to be able to come home and see how my home town did online, instead of calling someone at home and spending 30 minutes on the phone getting the results.

It hurts me to say this, but i agree with you Nigel. When i talk to my mom and see how a tournament is goin, at the end of the conversation i feel dumber, because I can't understand with the screaming and her lack of knowledge of the sport, what the hell really happened. It is a lot easier just to look at the internet and find it out. And I almost forgot, Clay Center just passed abilene in team scores. HELL YEAH

Just a note, At 8:30 Oberlin and Eureka have all their stats posted, as does Eudora in 4a, and Shawnee heights. It is really a hoot to be able to check things out and try to figure what teams are in good position to do well next week , and which ones may have lost out. kudos to those who were on the ball.
