Interesting to look to KC every year at the Classic Dual between KC area schools. Wish we had something like this between Wichita/South vs OKC/North. I know the KS Coaches hate losing to MO every year. They'll do everything possible to put a good team on the mat this year.
This is the year KS has a chance to beat MO and they had better. Most of those state champs and high placers from MO are not seniors. The next few years could get ugly for KS. Some of the potential match-ups are Shumate against Jacob Nay of Oak Park. At 171, Erisman takes on Bowman (BS) who beat the kid who beat Erisman in that MO finals. 215, Born vs. Ott. I think KS is tougher in the lower weights with Ely, Schumate, Perez, Almauger..I think they jump out to an early lead. If Zach Bailey wrestles he will thump whomever KS puts of the mat. The Graham boys from Park Hill will get the dual back to even at 140 and 145 but Hurla will keep it close at 145. MO doesn't have much at 152 or 160 which doesn't mean KS wins but they should be favored. If the coaches could get Bailes to 152 and slide Kellerman in at 160 it makes KS pretty tough through here. 171 is a toss up as previously outlined. 189 KS puts Hardy or Metzger out there for a win against MO. At 215, you got two of the meatiest boys around. Ott against Born from ON. This is a swing match that KS has to win. I guess MO puts in the Platte County Hwy against ??? from KS. Anyway, I see KS wins at 112 (perez) 119 (Ely) 130 (Almauger) 152 (Bailes) 160 (Kellerman) 189 Hardy/Metzger with Shumate (125) Erisman (171) and Born (215) being must wins for KS to win the dual.

There are some tuff guys in eastern ks but its not uncommon for kc metro area wrestlers who sport records like 34-5 or 29-4 then go to state and get beat by someone 19-13 etc. If you want to dual MO get the best wrestlers not your best freinds and go win the dual.!!!!! SEE YA AT STATE

I misspoke. Ely and Almauger are not seniors but have been tough for a long time. We need some more good wrestlers. Maybe we extend the area to get some of those tough guys from Wichita and out west like Church here states?
One thing is for sure Sr. Church. The best college wrestlers from KS right now are from the KC area and not from anywhere else. Johnston, Bunch, Dyer, Bogart, Gardner, McCormicks and more.

Don't the wrestlers that wrestle the metro classic get 6 or 7 lbs. Why couldn't we move a 112lbr to that weight.

That's a good point...there are a couple of 112 lbers to be considered, depending on if they are on the high or low side of 112.
Chris Hoffman 112 Olathe South 26-10 Senior Nathan Price 112 Atchison 29-6 Senior

Remember, there is a seven-pound allowance for this meet. I would predict (IMHO), that you will see Perez at 112, and move everyone down a weight, all the way to 160 where Erisman will be.
Without a 103 lber, it has happened in the past where they doubled up on an upper weight. 189 would be my guess, as Strawn from Holton will probably be on the Kansas roster. This will make room for one of the others.

gutwrench1, i'm not disputing your wisdom on who are the best kansans in college at this time because i don't know the facts there, i'm assuming you must be speaking of D1 only because I know some locals here(wichita) in college doing rather well. Back to the subject at hand, if you want to beat MO go after the best because we (KANSAS) have the guys to do it with!! no problem. SEE YA AT STATE!!!!

Gentry would be a nice choice at the low weight. He a 124-36 record, is a state placer and holds numerous records for pins and wins at SM West. Not bad for a kid who started wrestling as a freshmen. Metro would be a great way to end his high school career.

I agree, Church. Team Kansas against Team MO in folkstyle would be more fun. With all the talnet in your part of the state why doesn't team Wichita (100 miles) take on Team North Eastern OK? There ought to be a border brawl like they have in the KC Metro. It's good for the seniors and for the sport.
Yeah, see you at State but I already miss 4A.

I believe there is a mileage limit for the metro classic. Something like 50-80 miles from KC.

Usually they don't wrestle 103 but put two or three extra guys in weights where the competition is stiff. And speaking of stiffed, a lot of good kids get passed over every year. Remember Purcell? A three time state champ, he didn't get picked. They ought to have a wrestle off if there isn't a recent history between kids but I guess that's not always possible. It's the unfortunate hazard of this great event. Someone has to draw the line somewhere. So go easy on the volunteer coaches who have to pick the teams. If you don't get in or your guy doesn't get invited, please don't whine about it on this forum. Go cheer for your team and get behind your guys. Or, if you're really po'd, whine on th forum and go sit on the MO side and root against the KS guys.
