My post wasn't designed for symphaty, it was designed to show everyone that 8th graders rarely stand a chance of placing at state against freshman.

There are some 8th graders that can give the freshman plenty. Did you see Kyle Detmer 14/120 take the HS 5A State champ in the finals. He is an 8th grader.

My son is 13 and in the 8th grade. His birthday is July 28. This makes him the youngest kid in his class at a 4A school. I have always told him, age is just a number. He has to compete against 14 (and even a few 15) year olds all the time in sports and school. He holds his own. Again, it is just a number. The reason that most freshman will beat an 8th grader has to do with them coming straight out of the high school wrestling program where they are practicing 5 days a week for 2 hours or more. In kids, you don't have the same intensity or time. One year age difference will not matter that much.

First I would like to thank Ksdave it’s nice to know someone missed me. In response to dustinT, I believe 14&under 120 last year was a tougher bracket than 140 this year. 1st Scott 2nd Bo Beard (he beat most of these guys at the classic) 3rd Kevin Callahan 4th High school 4A this year. 4th Chris Scheideman 5th Cameron Riojas 6th Skyler Scott DNP Adam Almanger 2nd High school that year 3rd this year DNP Justin York 6th Highschool state that year DNP Blake Mayes 3rd at 14&under 140 this year DNP Derek Koehn 2nd this year 16&under DNP Aaron Culberson 4th this year 16&under DNP Skyler Scott 3rd 16&under this year

I want to say that the six men that placed at state at 140 are a great group of wrestlers and besides, I would like to tell them all that they are great to know and talk to. Scott Elliott is one of the best kids I have seen in a long time. He along with the other five that placed seem to like each other and they understand winning and loseing. About the 8th graders they are very good and they will have there day next year and i hope they repersent wrestling as well as the six that placed this year. I got to know Blake Mayes at Witcha this year and hes a fine wrestler and i wish him the best in hi school as well as the other five. Hope to see you next year in hi school and who knows mabe in a wrestling meet.
