We had a big problem with saving seats on Saturday and Sunday. I got up both days and stood in line outside for a 1/2 hour before the doors would open so I could save seats. Saturday around 9:30a.m. some lady wanted to sit right in the middle of my family with her son and we told her the seats were for our boys wrestling and our 70+ dad who had just had surgery two weeks prior to State (we would call him at the Capital Plaza when it was time to come over to watch the boys). The lady left and brought back a security guy, he told us that we could only save seats for people that were using the restroom. He said we could not save seats for our boys that were wrestling and that if their seats were taken they would have to sit in our laps! The woman that wanted the seats threaten to push our mother down the steps in order to get the seats she wanted and the security guy just laughed. This man said he was the assistant to the head of security and it looked to us as though he was more concerned with who was saving seats than he was about an act of violence! In years past, I have gone over early to save seats for the club and our families because we all want to sit together--as most people do--and have not had the problem I had this year. I feel that if I am getting up early I should be able to save as many seats as I want without being harrassed by security and rude people that feel they deserve a good seat when they show up after the wrestling has started.

I don't understand why people were concerned with those who were saving seats. There were plenty of seats available - maybe not on the first row, but both days we were able to find decent seating without having to arrive early. We sat behind someone who was saving 3 rows of seats - didn't bother me a bit!
I did have to laugh about the announcer who had to keep requesting that there be no air horns. Why weren't those confiscated at the door along with the food? :-)

Saving seats is a bunch of crap!!!!!
We had the same problem at districts, people were trying to save seats in the first few rows, and then they would yell at you for standing in front of them. It's not that hard to be courtieous and at least let others sit there until the other person arrives, then I am sure the seat stealers would gladly scoot over to steal someone elses spot until they showed up.

I didn't mind people saving seats since it's better to tape from the nose bled section but all the children running around up there needed to be in them seats. They were sliding down the hand rails, bouncing balls down the steps, sliding down the cement sides, instead of using stairs they would go up and down on the seats and giving piggy back rides up and down. Ii scared me every time. I hate to say any thing to someone else's child so I held my tongue but was glad when someone came down I knew and told them they could get hurt so that stopped some.

Must of been the same lady that threatened us about saving seats!! We saved 6 seats for our wrestlers that were down on the floor getting ready to line up. I don't think it is out of line to save your wrestler a seat so they have a place to sit during the tournament. Would be terrible if your child worked his tail off all year to get to State and have to sit on the floor or 4 rows away because someone couldn't get up earlier to get their own.

I wish they sold tickets in advance with assigned seats so the seat saving wouldn't be an issue. Last year we went to state and I was pregnant. I tried to sit with my daughter in several areas and was constantly thrown out. I finally ended up in tears. This year, when my son qualified for state, all I could think about was how awful of an experience I had with getting a seat the previous year. I almost dreaded going to state as I feared going through that again. Luckily we had some people in our group that were able to arrive early and save seats for me and my two children as well as other members of our club. It is nice to sit together with the club, but I think that the assignment of seats would settle the rudeness of people, the hurt feelings, and the flared tempers.

I agree with you msjewel. Every other sporting event you go to has reserved seating (Wranglers, Royals, Thunder, NASCAR, etc., etc.). This would solve alot of problems and calm alot of nerves. They could let the clubs buy certain sections ahead of time, and then sell the balance to the general public.
