Heard a rumor this weekend and hope it isn't true. I heard Steven Foster of Sedgwick will not wrestle the rest of the season because of his committment to play football at Kansas. Is this true?

Yeah, what a fun-sucker (Mangino).
So, I'm clueless with Foster's football career. What has he done to warrant a scholarship? Congrats to him!

If i am not mistaken Jordan Bedore may have been encouraged to forego summer wrestling prior to attending K-State. I remember Bill Snyder being at Baldwin at the State Freestyle and Greco tourney and making a comment to that affect.

I understand how college athletics work. Once you're committed it's almost like you become property of that school. There's a huge investment made in the athletes. I'm selfish - I want to see Foster wrestle.
In wrestling there is always the potential for injury. But walking downstairs there's a potential for injury. Apples and oranges I know. Steven had just a few weeks to finish out his wrestling career with a possible state championship. Shame he won't be able to do that.

Football is a full ride. If Steve gets injured then he could lose the scholarship. Why risk it? I would like to see him continue wrestle as well but imagine if he tore up his knee or something. He would spend the rest of his life wondering "what if."
Atticus and Steve have wrestled since they were 7 and 8 years old. My earliest wrestling memories is of Steve beating the tar out of Atticus and Dwyane Zlatinik every week. Steve has always been one to come up and talk with us even when the boys had to face each other later in the day. He has grown into a great young man. If this is the end of his wrestling career then I wish him the best of luck and can only say "GO KU"!!

Here is the issue, I am careful about these types of things, but suspect I am not the only one. I firmly believe, from conversations, that if given the option, Steve would have considered wrestling. There are just two issues and as much as I hate to admit it, I know both are true.
1 - not as much offered to help you get through college when you wrestle.
2 - not as many oppportunities to make a living from wrestling after you finish college when you wrestle.

Isn't there then the possibility of going through life saying "what if I would have wrestled that last year?"

Perhaps. But Uncle Rico doesn't look back and wonder about wrestling. Just football. Geez.

he might ask "what if i had wrestled my last year" to himself the rest of his life. but the best possible answer to that is he would have won a state title. if gets hurt and asked "what if i hadnt wrestled" the answer would be an education paid for and who knows, maybe an opportunity to play pro football. these questions are very hard to answer, and i wont fault a kid no matter what desicion they make. but if he were my kid, and football was his first love and he something like that on the line, i'd have a hard time telling him not to hang up the wrestling shoes.

Mr. Furches....I'm not suggesting Steven wrestle in college instead of playing football. I just think it's a shame that he can't wrestle these last couple weeks. Again, selfishly I wanted to see Foster in a stacked 285 3-2-1A weight class.
Playing Division I football is an absolute dream. If given the choice between football and the much less glamorous wrestling, I'd play football, too (even at KU!). I wish Steven the best of luck in the future, but it's disappointing his wrestling career has ended early.

I as well wish Stephen would wrestle, I have bragged on him all year and as Barry mentioned, he is one heck of a young man. The intent of my post is wishing more for wrestling where we would have a chance to compete with, say football, a sport I also love, but I know that at least for now, that is just dreaming. Neither can I blame him or other kids in the future I am sure this will effect, even possible 4Xers.

I heard it was himself and had nothing to do with KU.

Steven Foster has won a KSHSAA State Wrestling Championship and demonstrated outstanding athletic ability as both a running back and linebacker - GREAT JOB young man.
I applaud your accomplishments!
I can picture the smile on big Steve's face and it is priceless.

From the reliable source i heard from he had no choice. And you can trust my source, as I am 110% sure he knows what he's talking about.
