Sunflower Surge: Team Kansas Women Make History at Fargo 2025

In a record-breaking year at the 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals, Team Kansas Women’s Wrestling rose to the occasion with heart, hustle, and historic results. Among 2,245 entries across the Junior and 16U Girls divisions — the largest field in tournament history — Kansas stood tall, sending 33 fierce competitors into the 16U Freestyle brackets and emerging with seven All-American finishes, a new state record.

With 1,029 entries in the 16U division alone, the depth of competition was unprecedented. Yet Kansas not only met the moment — they redefined it. Grey Joyce and Lulu Kirk both reached the finals, earning 2nd place honors and marking the first time Kansas has had two 16U finalists in the same year. Their silver-medal performances were backed by strong showings from Leolyn Karnowski and Josie Wilson (4th), Hayleen Martinez (7th), and Averie Counts and Siobhan Flanner (8th).

The team’s collective effort landed Kansas in 10th place out of 47 states, its highest finish ever at Fargo. This achievement wasn’t just about medals — it was about momentum. From the grind of training camps to the roar of the Fargodome, these athletes embodied the spirit of Kansas wrestling: resilient, united, and ready for more.

Seven medals. Two finalists. One unforgettable run. Team Kansas didn’t just compete — they made history.
