National High School Senior Championships

Key Points:

1. Call (913 888 8630) or e-mail (celvin@everestkc.net) as soon as you know you have qualified (preferably Saturday morning of the state tournament weekend) and no later than Sunday 3/1/09.
2. The flight leaves Kansas City on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 (meet and park in space to be determined later - maps will be provided).  We will return on Monday, April 6, 2009.
3. Complete and remit the bio sheet* and payment sheet* along with a $300 payment per person by 3/5/09.  Please note - this is after the notification by 3/1 due in #1 above.
4. Most towns, booster clubs, civic groups, etc. are happy to assist in funding you as well as your coach and parents.
5. There is no wiggle room on the dates – so please respond as soon as possible.

To qualify for the National High School Wrestling Championships, you must be a high school senior who is a current or former state finalist.  Last year’s tournament had over 800 elite wrestlers from 46 states vying for these top honors.  Kansas has had 75 All-Americans over the 19 years and we plan to add more this year.  In last year’s NCAA Division I Championships, 9 of the 10 Champions, 17 of the 20 finalists and 80% of the All-Americans had competed in the NHSCA Wrestling Championships when they were seniors.

We’re on a very tight schedule for arrangements this year so we need your positive responses IMMEDIATELY!  Traveling as a team and staying together keeps the cost down for everyone.  We suggest you contact businesses, booster clubs, friends, relatives, etc. for donations to cover at least part of your expenses.  Previous fundraisers held by booster clubs or wrestlers have included hog raffles, chili suppers, bake-sales, car washes, etc.

The costs this year are expected to be around $555 per person, plus additional money for meals, souvenirs or any other purchases.

Only a few seats are available and most pre-qualified wrestlers have already paid their airfare.  You will need $15 per checked bag each way and additional money for meals, souvenirs or any other purchases.

Unpaid amounts for all orders of shirts, coach’s membership and USA cards are due on 3/20.

Your coach and/or parents are also invited to go.  Please be sure they are all indicated on your returned payment form.

We’ll fly out of Kansas City Wednesday (April 1st, 2009) and cannot return till Monday (April 6th, 2009) because the finals are Sunday night.  Be sure to keep your grades up so you’ll be able to miss 4 days of school.  Teachers can help you plan ahead.

The bio form* (signed waiver) and payment form* need to be returned to us by 3/5/09.  Snail mail does not deliver in less than 4 days.  If you plan to overnight, please sign waiver for delivery.  Late entries cannot be accommodated in the airfare.
