almost pinning someone doesn't mean anything, winning the match is all that matters.

Was able to witness this. At one point in time Gardner was on his back. And even the crowd was really into it. But you could see that he is good as he was able to get himself out of that situation and go onto win the match. Gardner is the real thing. Why is it that some of you are out to make him look bad. I think if we all had followed Sanderson's career in college he possibly was on his back a few times but yet still was able to go undefeated for four years. Get off of Gardner and accept the fact that he will be a State Champion again.

Karl Brown almost defensively pinned Gardner twice at Derby (I think he was pinned but the ref wasn't in position)

A headlock is one of the moves with which a poorer wrestler can beat a better wrestler. I think one headlock will probably be enough for Tanner and it will be harder to head lock him in the near future.

headlocking someone and putting them on their back doesnt mean anything. Tanner still won the match.

So was Jeremy Long a bad wrestler who just caught all the good wrestlers in head locks, and won 4-state championships.

Tanner and Neil have been practice partners for the past 2 or 3 years until this past summer when Neil hit his growth spurt and his weight went up to 140. With Neils weight going up and Tanner staying at 112/119, they really didnt wrestle around much this past summer, so whoever told you that was lying to you.
As for Jeremy Long, anyone that is a 4x state champ has to be a very good wrestler. Although he did only have the headlock as a move, he used it effectively and did what he had to do. The reason we probably dont hear about him wrestling in college (if he even did) was becasue the headlock really doesnt work past the high school level and therefore he did, or most likely would have had problems at the college level.

I coached Jeremy and have worked out with him for many years. He also had an intense hip toss too. Jeremy had what wrestling is 99% about a lot of heart. He probably had less talent than many of those he beat (Spalding, May, Siefreit, and Tillman), but when he stepped on the mat he meant business and got the job done. God knows I tried to break himof his headlock madness for many years, but I must say he was successful with it and had some of the best hips I've ever seen.

If you care to really get the facts straight, it was not a headlock at all, but a wizzer with a hip toss executed on a poor shot by Gardner (he himself admits this openly). However, after the toss, where Tanner was nowhere near being pinned, he escaped and reversed the T-West wrestler. In the second period, Gardner double-legged the guy to his back and stuck him.
